UNISON Housing Associations Branch has around 3200 members working in social housing in the Greater London Area. Our members work for over 180 employers. We have 11 workplaces with over 100 members, and many other workplaces with smaller groups of members. We organise and represent all staff, whatever post they hold. We recruit in every group of workers; Support Workers, Team Leaders, Housing Officers, Cleaners, Housing Managers. UNISON recruits temporary and agency workers. Sixty seven per cent of branch members are women. We have over 100 elected local representatives.

The branch committee

The branch is run by the branch committee and supported by skilled staff, locally, regionally and nationally. The committee meets monthly, if you have an item you would like put on the agenda talk to your steward or call the branch office.

All members of the Housing Associations Branch can attend branch meetings, vote and stand in branch elections and are encouraged to become involved in our campaigns and activities.

The branch rolling annual general meeting takes place in February. Elections for committee members and conference delegates take place at these meetings.

We are always looking for people who feel they can contribute to the branch and to helping other members. This could be a regular commitment or just the occasional hour or so. We provide training courses for our reps and officers. Contact the branch office if you would like to find out more.

London Region

UNISON is Britain's and Europe's  largest public sector trade union with members in local government, health, education, the voluntary sector and utilities. UNISON is divided into 12 regions. As a London branch we send six delegates to the London Regional Council which meets 4 times a year. Branch Delegates are elected in November each year. The Regional Council AGM is held in February each year, when there are elections to Regional Council, various sub committees and Regional Officer posts.

Community Section

Our branch is part of the  Community section of UNISON set up in June 2009. The Community sector held its first Doreen Davies speaking at UNISON'S Community ConferenceDoreen Davies speaking at UNISON'S Community Conferencenational conference on 2nd November 2010 in Telford.

This year the branch sent seven delegates and visitors to the 2013 Community Sector Conference held in Manchester Friday 15th March to Sunday 20 January.

The branch sends four delegates (at least two are women) to the London Region Community Service Group Committee, elections take place at the branch AGM or if no one comes forward at the AGM then at the branch committee meeting in April.

Each year the London Community Service Group Committee organises a seminar which all members are invited to attend. This year it's on Saturday 18 May, 10.30 - 1.pm at Friends Meeting House. The seminar will focus on what the future holds for the Community Sector, the impact of public spending cuts, new legislation and organising to win.

The branch can nominate members to UNISON'S    Housing Associations Sector Committee.

UNISON National Conferences

UNISON holds its national delegate conference each year in June. The branch sends four delegates, these are elected at the AGM. We are particularly keen to include young members and members working in lower paid jobs. This year conference takes place 18 to 21 June in Liverpool.
